Substitute Teacher, 41, Had Sex With Teenage Student, Burlington Prosecutor Says

A 41-year-old substitute teacher from Burlington County has been arrested for having a sexual relationship with a teenage student, authorities said.

Kameelah Kareem of Willingboro was charged with second-degree sexual assault and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child on Wednesday, according to  Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Willingboro Township Public Safety Director Kinamo Lomon.

She was released on Thursday after a hearing in Superior Court,

Kareem was substitute teaching at Willingboro Township Public Schools at the time of the sexual assaults, they said.

An investigation began last month after authorities were made aware of a possible inappropriate relationship between Kareem and a 15-year-old student during the 2019-20 school year, Coffina and Loman said.

Kareem served as a substitute teacher at the Alternative School at Bookbinder on various dates between November 2019 and March 2020, they said.

Kareem had interaction with the student on multiple occasions outside of school, they said.

Details are being withheld to protect the boy's identity, the prosecutor said.

Kareem will be prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor Stephen Eife, supervisor of the BCPO Major Crimes Unit – Special Victims Section.

The investigation was conducted by the BCPO Major Crimes Unit – Special Victims Section and the Willingboro Township Police Department. The lead investigators were BCPO Detective Siobhan McClintock and Willingboro Detective Monica Pogorzelski.
